Nigel Shepherd, the new Resolution national chair, has used his first speech in the role to call for “no fault” divorce.

Mr Shepherd said:

“It’s wrong – and actually bordering on cruel – to say to couples: if you want to move on with your lives… one of you has to blame the other”.

But that is how the law currently stands – there needs to be an “allegation” (one of the “five facts” needed to show that you have the grounds to petition for divorce) in the petition.

Making sure you choose the correct “fact”, and giving the correct information in your divorce petition, can be tricky.

If you are thinking of issuing divorce proceedings, don’t get it wrong- particularly as the Court fee is now £550.00!
